GET UP STAND UP
Tamil,malayalam with English subtitles/34 mnts/2012/India
Camera and direction:Sreemith
Synopsis
The first Inter-Governmental Agreement for setting up two 1000MW light water reactors was signed between India and the erstwhile USSR in 1988. In spite of people’s opposition to the project since then the authorities were careful not to publicise the Environmental Impact Assessment Report, and the Site Evaluation Study and Safety Analysis Report.
In a radius of 2 to 5 km declared as sterilization zone, there are 15989 local residents .More than 1 million people live within a 30 km radius. The Plant’s coolant water and low-grade waste can kill fish and fish eggs as other Power Plants are doing already.

The Atomic Energy Regulation Board has said, that there should be no tourism site

within a radius of 20 km from the plant when Kudankulam is only 14 kms from  Kanyakumari and only 60 kms by air from Thiruvananthapuram. An accident at

Kudankulam will be unmanageable because of the high density of population.
The functioning of this Nuclear Power Plant will destabilise the livelihood of the people living in the vicinity, pollute the environment in an unimaginable magnitude; and in case of an accident, the fallout will be beyond boundaries and uncountable!  This protest is for those trying to make a living now and for posterity, as a Nuclear Plant anywhere is like having a Nuclear Plant everywhere…
This film tries to raise some questions on Safety, development,Energy etc....

FILLING THE BLANKS
Malayalam/45 mnts/Dir:Sreemith/pedestrian pictures
camera and Direction:Sreemith
Filling the Blanks is a 45 minute documentary unfurling in three chapters showcasing the
lives of different women – Chitralekha, Elizabeth, Jamila, Teresa, Lissy and others, who
are trying to live differently. Certain schemes of the government, for example the PMRY,
and some non-governmental initiatives, have encouraged women to take that different
step in their life, but living differently isn't easy.
Women living together with their children and no male live-in support are also
considered a threat to the moral psyche/fabric of society. The travails of one such family
is also brought forth in Filling the Blanks.
A microcosm of these daring and different means of livelihood fraught with humiliation,
contempt, and survival strategies are the major thrusts of Filling the Blanks.
The camera and direction of the documentary is by Sreemith, a young video activist and
film maker; having taught courses in Film making for the past five years, he is also one of
the founder members of Pedestrian Pictures, Trivandrum.

Synopsis
Kachchateev is a small island in Palk Strait. It lies 25 kms off Rameswaram in India, and almost 75 kms. towards Jaffna in Sri Lanka.
The fate of the fisher community was being cruelly decided by borders demarcated in water, which never really cared for the fisher people’s livelihood and happiness.
Like we have check posts at our borders on land, which has a mechanism for catching any suspicious person/s or vehicle that tries to cross over illegally, why is this lacking in our water borders; why this indiscriminate killing of the fisher folk trying to make a living the hard way fighting against all odds??
Nearly 1500 fishermen were killed by the Srilankan Navy till the civil war in
Sri- Lanka came to an end.

A WORLD SO ROUND AS A FOOTBALL
If anything creates a festival ambience in Malappuram,it is sure that a ball is taken to the ground.
Football has been a greatest passion to malappuram.
The passion and love towards football is beyond national boundaries. Thus the district deemed to be the
soccer hotspot of Kerala.,so much so that the football freaks of malappuram have invented a shorter
version of the game called Sevens. The rules are different and so are the playing time ground also.
Even if the shorter version of football is originated in malappuram nobody knows exactly where and
when.Shrinking of football grounds may be a reason for this kind of invention.
Now football in Kerala has itself become a parochial identity marker, while
Cricket is becoming or has already become the hegemonic
football as the popular sport of Malappuram has to
be studied both as an elected as well as an ascriptive identity. Football possesses
Malappuram as well as Malappuram possesses football. And both these identities
work in tandem.
